Remember When:
You were born a daughter
You looked up to your mother
You looked up to your father
You looked up to everyone.
You wanted to be a princess in your pink “stick out dress.”
You wanted to own a horse and wore cowgirl boots whenever you could.
You wanted to ride in the rodeo
You wanted to be first lady
You wanted to be president
You were picked last for the team
You were the best one on the team
You refused to be on the team.
You loved algebra
You couldn’t remember your 7 times tables
You took piano lessons for 8 years
You hate to play the piano.
You loved to talk.
You couldn’t talk.
You didn’t like the way you looked
You didn’t like the way your mother looked
You wanted to grow up, to drive
You had your first best friend.
You had your first date.
You got kissed
You got to kiss back.
You didn’t go to the prom
You went to the prom with the wrong person.
You fell in love.
You fell in love.
You fell in love.
Your best friend moved away.
You lost your other best friend.
You became a steady girlfriend
You became a significant other
You became a mother.
Sooner or later, you learned to listen to yourself
You learned when you needed a break
You learned when you needed a rest
And you found your voice.
Now, you know what to get worked up about, and
what to get rid of and you know
when it’s time to take care of yourself,
when it’s time to do something that makes you stronger, faster, & more confident.
And you know it’s never too late to live life and never too late to change one.
