Friday’s Friend: Ronny Edry

When I was in the non-profit, fund-raising world, we had a saying,

“Every good idea has been stolen from someone else.”

It was’t that we thought there were no original ideas. It was more that every creative, good idea had its origins in someone else’s good idea. We just admitted it, grabbed what we needed, and moved on.

I’m going to solidify that practice today, here on my Blog. Each Friday I’ll take someone else’s great idea and post it, share it, pull from it, link to it, or somehow pass it along. I’ll offer a “Friday’s Friend.”

Even Friday’s Friend is not an original idea. I’ve found it, or something similar, on many blogs and d**n if I can remember one of them or find the time to search.

So, I’m just saying, as I did for 20 some years as a professional fund-raiser, “Not my idea, but it’s so good, I’m going to run with it.”

My first Friday’s Friend is Ronny Edry, an Israeli graphic designer with a powerful Ted Talk video here.

Israel and Iran: A love story?

Published on 21 Dec 2012
When war between Israel and Iran seemed imminent, Israeli graphic designer Ronny Edry shared a poster on Facebook of himself and his daughter with a bold message: “Iranians … we [heart] you.” Other Israelis quickly created their own posters with the same message — and Iranians responded in kind. The simple act of communication inspired surprising Facebook communities like “Israel loves Iran,” “Iran loves Israel” and even “Palestine loves Israel.”

Ronny Edry’s initial post has now drawn over 11 million Likes

Between March 2012 and August, 2012, Ronny Edry’s initial post had  8,831 Likes and a weekly reach of over 2 million.   His method was pure Social Media 101. He used

Images that we relate to.

Images that stir our heart.

Images that speak to the universal desire for peace.

Images that remind us of the power of love.

While I work on getting images to actually show up on my Blog, I hope you’ll share your own experiences with  TedTalks, YouTube videos, or Blogs that have moved you. What story do you want to share about the power of this new social media?  I’d love to know.

If the COMMENTS box does not appear below, just click on the Blog title in the right hand column. I can’t explain it; I just know it works that way.
